  2. When do you expect more stock?
  3. What is Lufkin’s problem with production?
  4. Do you have a substitute for the Lufkin diameter tape measure?

Here are my best answers:

  1. Unfortunately, there are none in stock anywhere. Lufkin doesn’t even have any.
  2. They have continually moved back their ship date since January 2022. At this point, I won’t be happy until they tell us that they shipped us some tapes.
  3. I don’t know whether it is a raw material shortage, labor shortage, or otherwise. This problem has existed for 12 months now. I can’t imagine what the problem might be with Lufkin/Apex.
  4. Yes. Definitely. The Pi-Cobra tapes are an excellent substitute. The T217-6654 measures pipe diameters up to 38 inches, in 100ths of an inch. Your imprint can even be put on both sides of the case, at an extra charge. It is also available in metric scale (T217-6657).

5 Ways to Pick a Maglite Engraved With Your Logo

So you want your logo on a Maglite, to give to your customers. How do you

Multiple colors when choosing a Maglite Engraved with your logo

choose which Maglite engraved with your logo would be the best choice?

  1. Budget. How much do you want to spend on each customer? Better yet, what is the lifetime value of each customer? Do they spend $1,000 a year? Over 20 years, they would spend $20,000. Would you be willing to spend $50 on an advertising gift for that customer? Remember, this type of gift will last a lifetime.
  2. Size. Maglites come as small as one AAA battery. The largest one uses 4 D batteries. There are many in between those two sizes.
  3. Style. There are rechargeable ones, incandescent ones, and LED ones. Which style is more suited to your client base?
  4. Color. Your corporate logo might be in color, and you may want to continue that color in all your advertising. Maglites come in several colors, depending on the model.
  5. Quantity. Do you want to do this project for all your customers, or just the big spenders? That’s up to you.

Tally Books Aren’t Just For Oilfields Anymore

Tally Book Junior Steno Style
Tally Book Junior Steno Style

Tally Books got their origin as compact, water resistant, pocket sized notebooks that oilfield workers use. They keep constant records of when they add a section of pipe when drilling a well. They also need to record the size of the pipe and other parameters associated with the event.

The water resistant feature, and the compact size, have made tally books great for everyone else that works outdoors, and needs to keep frequent records. Who needs tally books? Here are some ideas, and some of them might be a little far fetched. A little humor never hurts. LOL

Why Are Pipe Diameter Tape Measures So Scarce?

Why Are Pipe Diameter Tape Measures So Scarce?
Why Are Pipe Diameter Tape Measures So Scarce?

In 2021 and still in 2022, there are widespread supply chain issues worldwide. Many products that are made in China have had 2 problems making it to the United States. First of all, is their labor problem. Covid 19 outbreaks have closed down Chinese factories at least twice since 2019. Secondly, transportation issues have been another major issue. The price of shipping has increased drastically, and the port of Los Angeles had a bottleneck issue several months ago.

All these issues have contributed to the dramatic slowdown of raw materials and

finished products. Pipe diameter tape measures are no exception. Lufkin makes the most popular one, and has shipped only a small amount of inventory in the last 12 months to its distributors. At this point, August 2022, the future of more shipments is uncertain. An alternative diameter tape is made in China, the Pi-Cobra Diameter Tape. Shipments are due in the United States shortly, but maybe not soon enough or big enough to satisfy the need of customers.

A Pipe Diameter Tape Measure is used by oil companies and Water utility companies. The oil companies are doing very well right now, due to the profitability of oil drilling. So their need for these tapes is higher than the supply. This is driving up the price of the Pi-Cobra tapes. Hopefully, this supply chain problem will soon come to an end.

Celebrate National Tape Measure Day With a Pipe Diameter Tape Measure

July 14 is National Tape Measure Day in the United States. We don’t know who started this, but it does exist, according to NationalDayCalendar.com.Ā  A patent was obtained on July 14, 1868 by Alvin J. Fellows of New Haven Connecticut. It was for improvements in tape measures. We don’t know what the improvements were. Today’s best tape measures are a flexible steel tape in a durable metal case, with a retractable feature and a belt clip. Smaller pocket tapes are very popular, too, like the Barlow 6 foot tape measure.

The most intriguing tape is the Pipe diameter tape measure. It measures the

diameter of a round object like a tree or pipeline, when you wrap it around the circumference. It eliminates the need to divide by pi (3.14159).

Today, tape measures are so inexpensive, that it pays to have one in your tool box, tool belt, garage, vehicles, and house, and boat.

Use Your Maglite Flashlights During “National Great Outdoors Month”

Don't Run Without Your Maglite Flashlights
Don’t Run Without Your Maglite Flashlights

June is “National Great Outdoors Month” in the United States. It was started in 1998 to draw people to the national parks and local parks. Visiting the outdoors is good for the soul. It offers a great release from the pressures of everyday life. Best of all, many aspects of it are free. How can you focus on this activity?

  • Volunteer at a summer camp for kids.
  • Go boating.
  • Walk in the woods.
  • Take pictures of sunsets and post them on your social media outlet.
  • Go biking, running, or walking on a local trail.
  • Run with your baby.
  • Get out of town and take a drive in the country.

No matter where you go, don’t leave home without your Maglite Flashlights. They can save your life if you get lost, or get caught after sunset in an unfamiliar place.

Incorporate Engraved Flashlights Into National Safety Month

June is national safety month in the U.S. It’s the time to be aware of safety issues around the home, work, and public places.

How to get involved:

  • Identify safety problems and report them to the right people.
  • Make sure your first aid kits are adequately stocked.
  • Check the condition of your fire extinguishers. If the pressure gauge is low, you may be able to have it re-charged. Otherwise, throw it away and replace it with a new one. Your fire department can advise you on this matter.
  • Take a CPR course.
  • Check the condition of your flashlights. When the electricity goes out, you don’t want a torch with dead batteries. Engraved flashlights with your company logo are a great way to advertise your company while helping to keep everyone safe.

The Importance of the Diameter Tape Measure

Ask any Arborist. Ask any oilfield worker. They will tell you how vital a diameter tape measure is to their jobs.

Using Diameter Tape Measures On A Tree
Using Diameter Tape Measure On A Tree

An Arborist needs to quickly determine the diameter of a tree, because he probably has to do this to another thousand trees. He uses this measurement to determine the amount of wood contained in the tree, so it can be sold for the wood content. For convenience and speed, he measures the diameter at the height of his chest. Diameter breast high (DBH) is the term used for this height. A tree diameter tape has a hook at the beginning, so the user can attach it to the bark, walk around the tree, and have the tape meet the zero mark. He reads the number on the tape, which is the diameter in inches.

An oilfield worker doesn’t need a hook on the end of his diameter tape measure.

Pi-Cobra Diameter Tape Measure- Metric & Inch

He just cleans off the pipeline and wraps the tape around it. The answer is shown on the tape where it lines up to the zero mark. It’s important to him because he needs to know how much oil or gas the pipe can carry. Also, if a fitting needs replaced or modified, he needs to order the right size. Diameter tapes are a vital part of the oil and gas business.
